WIRELESS TECHNOLOGY

Wireless communication is the transfer of information over a distance without the use of electrical conductors or wire. Wireless Communication is generally considered to be of telecomunications. Common of wireless equipment in use today include :
  • Proffesional LMR (Land Mobile Radio) and SMR (Specialized Mobile Radio)
  • Consumer Two Way Radio including FRS (Family Radio Service), GMRS (General Mobile Radio Service) and Citizens Band (CB) radios
  • The Amateur Radio Service (Ham Radio)
  • Consumer and profesional marine VHF radios
  • Cellular telephones and pagers
  • Global Positioning System (GPS)
  • Cordless computer peripherals
  • Cordless telephone sets
  • Satellite television
  • Wireless gaming

The following situations justify the use of wireless technology :

  • To span a distance beyond the capabilities of typical cabling
  • To avoid obstacles such as physical structures, EMI, or RFI
  • To provide a backup communications link in case of normal network failure
  • To link portable or temporary workstations
  • To overcome situations where normal cabling is difficult or financially impractical
  • To remotely connect mobile users or networks

In the last fifty years, wireless communications industry experienced drastic changes driven by many technology innovations.

Aplications of wireless technology :

  1. Security systems
  2. Television remote control
  3. Cellular telephony (phones and modems)
  4. WiFi
  5. Wireless energy transfer
